The Book of Mormon is a hilarious Broadway musical currently running at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre. It’s was created by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez. The first two men are the brains behind South Park. Lopez co-created Avenue Q and wrote the songs for Frozen.
The musical tells the story of two Mormon missionaries working in Uganda. They are trying to spread their religion to the indigenous population who are more concerned about AIDS, famine, and war.
The original Broadway cast starred Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad. The show earned nine Tony Awards.
Before the musical debuted on Broadway in 2011, many feared that it would infuriate the Mormon Church. Despite its foul language, and unique take on Mormonism, the show is more offensive to the genre of Broadway musicals then it is to any religion.
