A large element of Smashing Pumpkins’ music is introspective, deliberate, and ornate, but you’ll find little of that at their live shows.

A Smashing Pumpkins concert is an exciting affair. You’ll be bombarded by a continual rush of adrenaline and a steady stream of fervent alternative rock.

Smashing Pumpkins are one of the greatest bands to come out of the 1990s. They gained national attention in 1993 with the release of their sophomore effort, Siamese Dream.

The album, which has sold more than six million copies, contains the songs “Cherub Rock,” “Today,” and “Disarm.” Siamese Dream is a frequent entry on lists chronicling the best LPs of the decade.

Their follow up was their magnum opus, Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness. Released in 1995, Mellon Collie picked up seven Grammy nominations and produced the classic tracks “1979,” “Bullet with Butterfly Rings,” and “Tonight, Tonight.”

Mellon Collie highlighted Billy Corgan’s, the band’s frontman and principle songwriter, penchant for cerebral lyrics, haunting melodies, and grandiose accompaniments.

Corgan founded the band with James Iha (guitar), Jimmy Chamberlin (drums), and D'arcy Wretzky (bass).

Wretzky left the band in 1999. She was briefly replaced by Melissa Auf der Maur. Other former members include Mike Byrne and Nicole Fiorentino. Iha was out of the fray from 2000 until early 2018.

The current lineup consists of Corgan, Iha, Chamberlin, and guitarist Jeff Schroeder. Schroeder has been with the band since 2007.

Smashing Pumpkins went on hiatus from 2000 to 2006. Their first album after reforming was Zeitgeist.

Is it “Smashing Pumpkins” or “The Smashing Pumpkins?” The definite article is absent on their website but not on their Facebook page.

Their name on some albums have the “the.” For example, they’re referred to as “The Smashing Pumpkins” on Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and Machina/The Machines of God but not Siamese Dream or their debut, Gish.

We are always highly appreciative of your business and hope you have an awesome time on August 19, 2019 experiencing Smashing Pumpkins at Blossom Music Center.
