Learn About Gabriel Iglesias and His Comedy
When Gabriel Iglesias steps onto the comedy stage he brings a lot of energy. Wherever he’s booked to perform, Iglesias ignites the venue with his presence, charm, and infectious smile.
Iglesias started doing stand-up in the late 1990s. He’s now one of the most successful, and busiest, stand-up comedians in the world.
The corpulent funnyman mixes self-deprecating humor with hilarious observations on race, Mexican American culture, and the mundane experiences of everyday life.
Iglesias often jokes about his weight. His nickname, “Fluffy” comes from one of his routines: “There are five levels of fatness, fluffy is one of those levels. There's big, healthy, husky, fluffy, and DAAAAAAAMN!”
Gabriel Iglesias Does More Than Just Comedy Stand-Up Shows
Besides doing stand-up, Iglesias is also an accomplished voice actor. He has lent his voice to numerous films including Smurfs: The Lost Village, Coco, and Ferdinand.
Iglesias’ first stand-up film, The Fluffy Movie, was released in 2014. It performed quite well at the box office.
His second stand-up movie, Gabriel Iglesias: I’m Sorry For What I Said While I Was Hungry, came out two years later.
The comic also had several comedy specials including Hot and Fluffy, I'm Not Fat... I'm Fluffy, and Aloha Fluffy: Parts 1 and 2. Iglesias had a recurring role in short lived ABC sitcom, Cristela.
In 2015, he enjoyed his own reality series, Fluffy Breaks Even. The show was renamed Fluffy’s Food Adventures prior to its third season.
Iglesias was born on July 15, 1976 in San Diego, California. He’s the youngest of six children.
Gabriel Iglesias and His Weight
While Iglesias jokes about his weight, he has had serious health issues. He weighed as much as 445 pounds and was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes.
After being told that if continued his lifestyle he was going to die, Iglesias worked hard to improve his health. He eventually lost over 100 pounds. And Gabriel's weight has not stopped him selling a lot of tickets to his comedy shows.
In 2012, Iglesias received the key to the city of El Paso, Texas.
